Small town Vs. Big City

I am at home for the summer from college and this past year my mom moved from Portland to Newport. So this summer I am staying with her in town that is significantly smaller than anything that I am used to. It's not all bad though, there are some definite positives to the small town living over the big city. Here are the plusses versus the minus of living in a small town rather than the big city.

Plus:
-You see people that you know everyday on the street. I can't tell you how often my mom stops and talks to friends when we're walking down in aisle in the store.
-Eating and buying locally. Something that I LOVE to do and encourage everyone to do whenever possible. However, living in this small town environment makes it so much easier. We buy bread from the small bakery down the street and get our meant from a farmer outside of town.
-Walking into a restaurant and having the waitress know you. Because there are not a whole lot of places to eat in Newport I have begun frequenting places often. Already at my favorite Thai food place the owners know me and my family and what we like to order. It's reminds me of Luke's Diner at Gilmore Girls. :)
-Seeing the ocean every single day. There is something so spiritual and calming about looking out at that big huge body of water. Lucky me I get to see it everyday.

Negatives:
-NO Shopping! Seriously this is killing me know places to get make-up other than cover-girl and no window shopping whenever I please.
-Getting lost in the city. I love wandering the streets of downtown and discovering a new restaurant or shop that I have never seen. You simply can't do that here when town only stretches five miles.
-Everything closes early. Restaurants here close at nine. Can you believe that?

However, the biggest positive of them both is how beautiful both places are! And lucky for me the city is only a short drive away! Here are some photos of both places. (Portland, Or and Newport, Or)
